Persjani — the louvred shutters outside a Maltese window, sometimes written 'persian' — are the oldest climate control on the island: closed against the afternoon sun, they keep the heat off the glass while letting air move through. They are still the best partner for a new double-glazed window on a sunny elevation.

We fit persjani in timber, aluminium or PVC to match the façade, and aluminium roller shutters where a façade and the planning rules allow them. In a scheduled building or one of conservation value, original timber persjani in good enough condition are restored, not replaced — see timber apertures.

Restoring a pair of timber persjani — stripped, repaired and repainted — has a published Maltese guide range of €150 to €400; a standard aluminium roller shutter, fitted, from about €150 a window, more when it is integrated into a new aperture or motorised. New persjani are made to measure and quoted. Surveyed by us, then delivered either by us as your contractor with CheckYourTraders-verified installers, or by a vetted partner who contracts with you directly.

Questions people ask

Timber, aluminium or PVC persjani?
Timber is the traditional finish and the expected one on many old façades, but it needs painting. Aluminium and PVC look close to painted timber from the street and need very little upkeep. On a protected façade the choice may be made for you; otherwise it is cost against maintenance.
Can I fit roller shutters on the front of my house?
It depends on the building and the street: a roller box on a traditional façade can count as materially altering its character, which takes it outside permitted development. On the back of the house or on a modern block it is usually straightforward. Check with your architect if the façade faces a street in a conservation area.
Do you fit fly screens too?
Yes, with the shutters or on their own — roll-up, sliding or fixed, measured to each opening.
